ORMOC CITY – An estimated 6,500 people gathered at the Ormoc Superdome on the evening of June 28, to witness the revived Miss Ormoc 2017 pageant, after it was scrapped by the past administration last year.
Ormocanons and guests cheered loudly after Ms. Carla Meneses was announced Ms. Ormoc 2017, besting 1st runner-up Niña Sherra Tagalog who hauled most of the special awards. Completing
her court are 2nd runnerup Sharmaine Michaela Richards, 3rd runner-up Yricka Mongcopa, and 4th runner-up Thara Marie Sampan. They were hailed the cream of the crop among 20 candidates
who went through a rigorous pre-pageant training and activities.Meneses was also chosen as Ms Century Tuna Super Bod and Ms Supercat 2Go Travel. 1st runner-up Niña Sherra Tagalog, on the other hand, capture the special awards for Ms Photogenic, Ms Paradise Vista, Ms Imelda Heaven Spa, Best in Fun Wear and Best in Swimsuit.
Other special awards went to Yricka Mongcopa as Ms Congeniality, Dia Fatima Maguikay as People’s Choice Awardee, Rochelle Agnes Lebosada as Best in Philippine Terno. The panel of judges was chaired by Justice Geraldine Fiel-Macaraig and composed of PBA cager Jude Evangelista, sports doctor Dr. Rhoel Dejaño, commercial model April Tanhueco, former Comelec commissioner Atty. Goyo Larrazabal, Leren Mae Bautista, Angeles delos Reyes, Energy Development Corp. community relations officer Erwin Magallanes and beauty specialist Sheena Macapinig.The return of the Ms Ormoc Pageant was well-received by city residents. The Superdome, which seats around 7,000 was almost full. The pageant was chaired by the Rotary Club of Ormoc, represented by their president Dr. Sandra Fiel-Chiong, who said “we really worked hard to make this pageant special because of the unprecedented support of the LGU.”
This year’s Executive Fiesta Committee is also chaired by an RCO member and past district governor, Peter “Perok” Rodriguez. This is the 4th time that the RCO has chaired the pageant, but Chiong said this was the first time that they felt the full support of the LGU for the event. Billy Crawford and the Hastags provided the entertainment. Hosting the event were Marc Nelson and former Ms Earth Karla Henry.
Mayor Richard Gomez, in his speech, thanked the audience for their support to the affair. Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez, on the other hand, said that the Ms. Ormoc 2017 was just a first in the Gomez administration, adding “we promise you, the best is yet to come.” She explained that aside from working on providing services and basic infrastructure to constituents, Mayor Gomez is also keen on upping the happiness level of Ormocanons, hence his unqualified support to events like Ms. Ormoc.
Ms. Ormoc 2017 Carla Meneses went home with P 100,000.00 in cash prize and a crown designed by Shandar. She was crowned by Ms. Denesse Ann Rebadomia, Ms. Ormoc 2015.
Likewise, the first and second runner-ups also went home with crowns and cash prize of P 50,000.00 and P 40,000.00, respectively. The third and fourth runner-ups got P 30,000.00 and P 20,000.00, respectively, with the rest of the 20 candidates getting P 10,000.00 each consolation prize. By Lalaine M. Jimenea
