ORMOC CITY – Fourth District of Leyte Representative Lucy Marie Torres-Gomez, Ormoc City Mayor Richard I. Gomez, and the 15th Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) ng Ormoc, headed by Ormoc City Vice-Mayor Leo Carmelo L. Locsin Jr., finally took their oath of office on June 30, 2019, at the Ormoc City Superdome.
Relatives, friends, and supporters of the elected officials from the Ormoc Development Team (ODT) as well as LGU-Ormoc employees and barangay officials, came to witness the ceremony.
The oath-taking was presided over by Executive Judge Girlie Borrel-Yu of the Regional Trial Court of Ormoc City starting with the 10 councilors of Ormoc’s 15th SP. It was followed with the oath of office of VM Leo Carmelo L. Locsin Jr., then, Mayor Richard I. Gomez, and finally, Congw. Lucy Marie Torres-Gomez’ oath-taking.
Congresswoman Gomez then shared her message of thanks and gratitude to everybody who, in their own ways, had contributed to the 13-0 win of the Ormoc Development Team (ODT). Hers, she shared, was a message of “gratitude”.
“From the very start, that goal [13-0 win] was firm and solid. All for one, one for all; nothing less than that. Daghang niingon nga imposible, but the more they told us that, the stronger our resolve to prove them wrong, and we did… This victory, a historical one for Ormoc City, is not just ours as candidates to be happy about. It is for all of us to celebrate and cherish… You were all part of the equation. No effort was too big or too small. We fought together in the same war. And when we won, we also won it together… Thank you. We couldn’t have done this without you,” said Congresswoman Lucy, which gained her a resounding applause from everyone in the venue.
She then expressed her commitment to do the best of her ability, being given the privilege and chance to serve Ormoc and the whole of Leyte 4th district as representative. “Ang inyong kompyansa nga gihatag, ang inyong pagsalig, amo gyud ampingan, dili tiaw-tiawan, sa kanunay amo paningkamutan nga masuklian og matinud-anon ug maayo nga serbisyo… Makasaad ko ninyo, nga ngari sa Ormoc Development Team, sinsero ang among serbisyo, ug dako ug nindot ang damgo namo para sa dakbayan sa Ormoc. Nakita na ninyo ang atong agi. And believe me when I say that the best is yet to come. I will make no proclamations except to say that everything is possible and that it is time to begin the best story of and for Ormoc, and in an expanded scale, the best story of and for the 4th district of Leyte,” expounded the honorable representative.
M e a n w h i l e , M a y o r Richard I. Gomez, prior to delivering his speech, firstly commended the late SP Member Mario M. Rodriguez, more popularly known as “Doc Mayong”, through a certificate of recognition and grateful appreciation of the generous contributions of Doc Mayong, as a public servant. The brother of the late SP Rodriguez, now councilor-elect, Peter Rodriguez and his wife accepted the certificate.
He then expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Ormocanons who gave a 13-0 support to the ODT.
Afterwards, he shared with much passion some of the projects that the ODT are and will be pushing through in the next three years, which are: Lake Danao water system; rainwater storage; modernization program of transportation system by the solar/e-jeepneys; high-end and low-cost housing and shelter projects with the help of the National Housing Authority; road networks; more schools and/or school buildings; acquire more energy-efficient vehicles (ambulances, fire trucks); installment of AEDs in the barangays; slaughterhouse upgrade; putting up of a satellite market in Brgy. Valencia; backfilling the Bagsakan area; upgrading of streetlights; Superdome upgrade; implementation of CLUP and Zoning Ordinances by relocating vulcanizing shops; increasing the number of livelihood programs of the city; banning of single-use plastics; and, launching of wellness programs.
The inaugural session of the 15th Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Ormoc then followed.
