MANILA – Ormoc City was named among the Philippines Top Model Cities and Municipalities during the Manila Times awarding rites on Wednesday, September 25, held in the New World Manila Bay Hotel.
Ormoc was named 2nd-runner up in the nationwide search for Philippine Top Model Cities after it bagged the Concrete Ideas Award for Mayor Richard Gomez’s innovative infrastructure programs like re-designing existing rotundas to become more traffic efficient, and multi-purpose sports buildings that he has had constructed in the Ormoc City Sports Complex, among others.
First runner-up was General Trias City and the top plum went to Bacolod City for bagging the Business Friendly and High Returns Award, as well as the Retirement Haven Award.
The award was received by Mayor Richard I. Gomez himself, accompanied by Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez who was an invited resource speaker, Vice Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin Jr., Councilors Bennet Pongos, Goito Yrastorza, and Lalaine Marcos, and various department heads and representatives.
The mayor’s entourage cheered as the awards were called out.
It was also a proud moment for Ormocanons present, when Mayor Christina G. Frasco of Liloan City bagged for her town the top award for Model Municipality. The young mayor also hails from Ormoc and got married to Liloan Mayor Duke Frasco, who is congressman now.
Mayor Gomez, in receiving the award, said “the value of all these is that we just have to keep on doing good things with your work and (being) diligent.”
He also lauded the LGU people saying, “it pays to have good people working inside the City Hall.”
In ending, he said, “I would like to thank our Vice Mayor, our city councilors, our department heads, and of course, my source of inspiration, my wife Congresswoman Lucy,” which elicited a loud “ooooohs” from the ladies present. September 26 was also a banner day for Mayor Gomez. On the evening of the same day, he received a trophy from the Philippine Cancer Society as one of the 2019 Extraordinary Influential Men alongside Senator Win Gatchalian, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, and a few more.
