VSU grads No. 1 & 10 in VetMed exams

City of Baybay – The 87th Foundation Anniversary of the Visayas State College here that kicked off this week was made more meaningful with the news that another graduate has topped the licensure examination for veterinarians given early August, according to the exam results released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on Friday.
The top-notcher was identified as Harvie Potot Portugaliza of VSU who got an 85.44% rating according to PRC. The results were released two days after the last day of the examination.  Harvie is the second Veterinary Medicine graduate of the university that placed No. 1.
The tenth slot of the prestigious top 10 also went to a VSU product, Jason E. Jumao-as with a rating of 81.50 percent.
Meanwhile, another graduate from a prestigious college in the region made it to No. 5. He is Antonio Socorro Borja, Jr. of the University of Eastern Philippines in Catarman who got a percentile rating of 82.60.
This is not the first time that VSU products topped various licensure exams, a testament to its excellent tradition of quality instruction. Recently, two graduates made it to the first and second place of the licensure exams for agricultural engineers.
Records obtained from the President’s office show that for Vet Med, the school produced a No. 1 and No. 6 in 2009.
In the field of agricultural engineering, a graduate was No. 1 in 2005, and 5th and 7th placer in the 2005 exams.
In 2008, the university officials were particularly proud of their geodetic engineering pioneer batch, three of whom landed in the top 10 — the 3rd, 4th and 6th ranks. This feat would see a repeat in 2009 where four graduates got the 1st slot, two 3rd placers and the 6th spot.
In the board exams for agriculturists, the school also had its top 10 placers.
Back to the recent Vet Med results, it was learned that 204 examinees passed out of the 566 who took it. The examination was given by the Board of Veterinary Medicine in Manila and Cagayan de Oro.
The PRC said they will start accepting registration for the issuance of Professional Identification Card (ID) and Certificate of Registration on August 10 up to August 22.
The oathtaking ceremony of the successful examinees including those who passed previous ones but have not taken their Oath will be held before the Board on August 29 at 1 p.m. at the Manila Hotel.
The others who made it to the top 10 are Errol Jay Balagan of the Central Luzon State U at No. 2; Jussiae Bariuan of the UP-Los Baños at No. 3: Kristine Esguerra from CLSU at No. 4; Rosalinda Papag of the Benguet State U-La Trinidad at No. 6; Yasser Cabansag of the CLSU at No. 7; Allen Veloso of CLSU at No. 8 and Paul Joseph Abaya of Benguet SU – La Trinidad at No. 9.
