ORMOC CITY – The Wowowillie show on the evening of Sunday, April 28, timed for the 15th wedding anniversary celebration of Richard and Lucy Gomez gathered a crowd of an estimated 45,000 people from Ormoc City and various towns of the 4th district.
However, like his Cebu leg the previous night to pitch in for Annabelle Rama’s candidacy for Congress and that of cousin Mayor Mike Rama, Willie had to cut the show halfway because the crowd went rowdy, trying to push their way to the front to receive jackets, Cherry mobile cellphones and cash that the popular TV host was giving away.
His appeals for the crowd to just cool it were ignored, and people were fainting one after the other, keeping the Red Cross volunteers and a group called SEGO who was in charge with beefing up the security, busy.
Willie, after singing his hit songs, began picking out old people, pregnant women, parents who brought their small kids and PWD’s and gave out goodies and cash to them. It also worked the audience into a frenzy.
He also urged the crowd to vote for Richard Gomez and Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez, saying in Filipino that they were the people who will not steal from public coffers. “Ito ang mga taong hindi magnanakaw sa inyo”, he said, to the rousing cheers of the audience. He added Richard and Lucy were among his best friends in showbiz, saying they were good people and highly respected in the industry.
He also lauded Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez for what she had done for Ormoc residents and the 4th district saying “kahanga-hanga na babae itong congresswoman ninyo, ang dami niyang nagawang proyekto sa maikling panahon na siya ay nasa pwesto”.
In the audience was Mayor Saturnino “Jun” Medina of Isabel, Leyte who commented he could not agree more to Revillame’s statement. “Ang daming nagawa ni Lucy for Isabel”, he noted.
As for himself, Revillame promised that aside from bringing back the show to Ormoc if Richard wins as Mayor, he would immediately donate P 1-million of his personal money to build a school building in the city. And if Richard wins again for his second term, he added, he would donate more to put up free clinics.
In a presscon later at Hotel Don Felipe, Revillame said he had no plans to join politics but will help people, especially friends, whom he knows would make good public servants. And among them are Richard and Lucy Gomez, he said.
Willie promised that it would be a grander show for Ormoc when he comes back, with huge prizes at stake. “May Camella Homes ba dito?”, he asked, and when the crowd roared “yes”, he said he’d ask Senator Manny and Cynthia Villar to put up a few units as prizes. The audience cheered lustily.
Before Willie showed up on stage, the evening was preceded by a short entertainment from Richard and Lucy who regaled the audience with their love story.
It was also noted that Richard’s bet for vice mayor, Leo Carmelo “Toto Jr.” was the darling of the crowd in their group. Good-looking and described as “yummy” by Willie’s front acts, the audience would roar with approval whenever he would come on stage.
Richard, when ribbed that his vice-mayor was already upstaging him, laughed saying “andyan kasi si Lucy, eh!”
