ALBUERA, LEYTE – Ironic. Drug lord Kerwin Espinosa and his father, Mayor Rolando Espinosa, may have “gitmos and gizmos aplenty” including cash, jetskis, Louis Vuitton shoes and expensive
cars, but it is still the town of Albuera here that’ll foot the bill for the burial of their five goons who were killed in an “encounter” with authorities early
morning of August 3.
A source at the town hall, who declined to be named, said that the five unclaimed bodies were given a pauper’s burial on Saturday, August 6. This, after they were given a 3-day wake at the
local funeral parlor, which is now billing the LGU P 35,000.00 for the 5 caskets. “We just had to find a place at the municipal cemetery for them, and borrowed a backhoe from a contractor
to dig holes for them,” the source said.
In the end, it is still “Pera ng Bayan” that would be footing the bill for their untimely demise. Of the five, only two were identified: Teresito Laro Paderangga and Richard P. Mato, both from Purok Marang, Lizon Valley, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, according to the IDs retrieved from their bodies. The three others were only known to the community as an alias Tatay, alias Arman,
both reportedly from Mindanao, and one unidentified person who reportedly comes from Cebu.
Six people died in the encounter, including one Ricky Gravillo, a local resident. Family members, however, claimed his body and gave him a decent burial.
