CALBAYOG CITY – Ormoc’s delegation, the Siglaro Elites, ruled this year’s Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet held on February 1-10, 2018 at Calbayog City, bringing home the “overall champion” trophy. The NorthWest Samar State University (NWSSU) oval was filled with deafening cheers as Rhodora V. Sison, the EVRAA 2018 Chairman of the Game Results, Records and Documentation Committee, announced the overall and final results during the closing ceremonies of the annual games.
Prior to that, Sison f irst announced the special awards. For the Best in Saludo: 3rd place – Ormoc City Division, 2nd place – Calbayog City Division, and 1st place – Leyte Division. For the Most Festive Delegation: 3rd place – Calbayog City Division, 2nd place – Leyte Division, and 1st place – Ormoc City Division. For the Best in Uniform: 3rd place – Ormoc City Division, 2nd place – Biliran Division, and 1st place – Catbalogan City Division. For the Best Tourism Booth Display: 3rd place – Northern Samar, 2nd place – Tacloban City Division, and 1st place – Eastern Samar. For the Cleanest and Most Orderly Delegation: 3rd place – Biliran Division, 2nd place – Northern Samar, and 1st place – Southern Leyte Division. For the Most Disciplined Delegation: 3rd place – Catbalogan City Division, 2nd place – Biliran Division, and 1st place – Southern Leyte Division. Elementary Level Afterwards, the game results of this year’s EVRAA Meet was announced. In the elementary level, among the 13 delegations, the Red Stallions of the Tacloban City Delegation came in as 4th runner-up with 10 gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze medals followed by the Blooming Dragons of the Baybay City Delegation who came in as 3rd runnerup with 10 gold, 22 silver, and 13 bronze medals. Coming in as the 2nd runner-up with 15 gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze medals is the Maasin City Tigers while Leyte took the 1st runner-up position with 18 gold, 21 silver, and 14 bronze medals. Finally, coming as the champion in the elementary level sports competition is the Siglaro Elites of the Ormoc City Delegation with 51 gold, 24 silver, and 28 bronze medals. Secondary Level In the secondary level, Tacloban City came in as 4th runner-up with 12 gold, 16 silver, and 17 bronze medals followed by Baybay City who came in as 3rd runnerup with 12 gold, 23 silver, and 19 bronze medals. Then, Biliran came in as 2nd runner-up with 16 gold, 12 silver, and 30 bronze medals.
The secondary level sports competition has been a tough fight between Ormoc City and Leyte delegations but, in the end, Team Leyte dominated, garnering 70 gold, 48 silver, and 42 bronze medals against Ormoc City’s 58 gold, 32 silver, and 46 bronze medals, earning the latter the 1st runner-up rank. Overall Champion Then, it was time to announce the overall official and final results of the EVRAA Meet 2018.
Tacloban City came in as 4th runner-up with a total of 22 gold, 27 silver, and 28 bronze medals followed by Baybay City who came in as 3rd runner-up with a total of 22 gold, 45 silver, and 32 bronze medals. Maasin came in as 2nd runner-up with a total of 24 gold, 35 silver, and 30 bronze medals while Leyte took the 1st runner-up title with a total of 88 gold, 69 silver, and 56 bronze medals. It was then that Ormoc City’s delegation roared with enthusiasm and thanks when they were declared as the EVRAA Meet 2018 overall champion, garnering a total of 109 gold, 56 silver, and 74 bronze medals. The full support given by Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez to the Ormoc City Division, from hiring international trainers to providing the athletes two pairs of shoes, has greatly added to the athletes’ motivation to win – and paid off quite well.
Now, since all the winners of the EVRAA 2018 Meet received not just medals but also tree icons (mahogany tree), Ormoc City could now create a mahogany park from a total of 239 tree icons received by the Ormoc winners.
