ORMOC CITY – This city’s government, other concerend government agencies and recipient-barangays actively participated in the launching of the Governance Outreach on Monitored Areas (GOMA) Project at the Ormoc Superdome on Friday, February 19.
Project GOMA, as it will be known, is a Collaborative Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) under the Capacitating Urban Communities for Peace and Prosperity (CUCPD) strategy to localize EO No. 70. It is a program under the leadership of Ormoc City Mayor Richard I. Gomez and City Local Government Operations Officer (CLGOO) Jean Redi T. Briones, RN, MDM.
Recipient-barangays of the said project are Liberty, Gaas, Lake Danao, Cabintan, and Quezon Jr., which will also be hosting the ‘white area operation’ for insurgency.
Initially, prior the formal launching of the project, City Mayor Gomez recalled in his welcoming remarks how it began two years ago, saying they held consultations and provided the beneficiaries of the project in Brgy. Liberty with livelihood programs.
“When we entered politics in Ormoc City in 2010, when Congresswoman Lucy first sat, again in 2013-2016, we saw the problems in this monitored areas. Isa sa pinakamalaking problema nila wala silang maayos na kalsada. But after how many years, with the help of our beautiful Congresswoman, as you can see, when we go up to Brgy. Cabintan, the roads are now cemented.”
“Today, only 7 kilometers left to be cemented in Brgy. Liberty and we will be able to do that just before the term of Congresswoman Lucy ends,” Gomez said.
Apart from thanking the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), City Mayor Gomez also gave credit to Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez who worked hard for cemented roads in far-flung villages and made possible the implementation of Project GOMA.
“Without her support, dili mada, dili kaya sa local government because the local government has limited budget,” Gomez explained.
He furthermore expressed his happiness and gratitude to see different government agencies working together as part of the whole-nation-approach, especially the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for spearheading the GOMA Project.
He finished his speech saying, “Magtinabangay kita aron molambo ug mo-asenso ang atong dakbayan, ang atong syudad, atong mahal nga Ormoc City.”
Meanwhile, Ormoc City Vice-Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin, Jr., Liga Ng Mga Barangay President and SP Member Esteban V. Laurente, and regional and provincial directors also gave their messages of promotion of the Whole-of-Nation Approach (WNA) in the fight against insurgency and the possible collaborative efforts between the agencies and LGUs. SP Member Jasper and SP Member Gregorio Yrastorza III also participated in the said activity. By Gwen Maurillo
