ORMOC CITY – The 15th Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) ng Ormoc passed on April 13, 2021 during its regular session an ordinance regulating fish prices in the city.
The said Ordinance No. 060 is entitled, “An Ordinance Regulating the Price of Fish and Other Marine Products within the City of Ormoc”, and is authored and sponsored by SP Member Atty. Nolito M. Quilang, Chairperson of SP Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry and is co-authored by SP Member Tomas R. Serafica, Chairperson of the SP Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries.
The rise in prices among marine products at the Ormoc City Public Market, accordingly, prompted a discussion among the members of the city’s Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC).
The circumstances and the inputs during said discussion, accordingly, laid the foundation of the crafting of the said ordinance, which aims to ensure that fish and other marine products will continue to be on the table of Ormocanons, especially the poor.
The ordinance further mandates that the City Agriculture Office-Animal Production and Fisheries Division (CAO-APFD) shall be the primary implementing office of said Ordinance No. 060; and shall conduct regular monitoring of prices of marine products sold in Ormoc City and submit periodic recommendations on adjustments to be made on price ceiling to the LPCC. Ordinance No. 060 shall, accordingly, take effect immediately following compliance with the publication and posting requirements in the Local Government Code of 1991. By Mary Ann Reusora
