TACLOBAN CITY – With 45.3 percent of its target population now vaccinated, Eastern Visayas is racing towards achieving herd immunity by the end of the year.
The Department of Health (DOH) said the ramping up of initiatives of the provinces and cities through aggressive coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination roll-outs has helped increase the people’s willingness to get inoculated.
“Our best hope in beating the pandemic is when herd immunity is achieved,” DOH said.
It added that support from local government units and local chief executives is also vital in the demand generation of the COVID-19 vaccination regardless of vaccine brand.
Accordingly, Biliran now leads among the provinces with a 78.3 percent COVID-19 vaccination coverage rate.
As of November 15, Ormoc City has already breached 70.5 percent, while Tacloban City has 62 percent.
The second leading province in vaccination is Southern Leyte at 52 percent followed by Eastern Samar at 51.5 percent, Leyte at 44.4 percent, Northern Samar at 32.4 percent, and Western Samar at 32.2 percent.
Meanwhile, Almeria, Biliran is the LGU that tops the highest inoculation rate with 89.9 percent; and followed by the island municipality of Capul in Northern Samar with 85 percent vaccination coverage, the highest in Northern Samar province. By Marie Tonette Marticio
