ORMOC CITY – The City Government of Ormoc, led by Mayor Richard I. Gomez, with the approval of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CDRRM) Council, will accordingly be providing a total of Php 9.5 million of financial assistance to neighboring Local Government Units (LGUs) devastated by Severe Tropical Storm “Rai” / “Odette”, which made it inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on December 16, 2021.

Accordingly, Php 1 million will be given to Cebu City, another Php 1 million will be given to Cebu province, and Php 500,000 each will be given to five more affected neighboring LGUs, which include the municipalities of Matalom, Hindang, Inopacan, Hilongos, and Bato.

The said funds will be derived from five percent (5%) of the Local DRRM Fund/2021 Quick Response Fund.

In addition, Php 1 million of financial assistance will be given to five municipalities in Southern Leyte that were severely devastated by Typhoon Odette. These are Liloan, Limasawa, San Francisco, Pintuyan, and San Ricardo.

To recall, from December 21 to 24, 2021, the Ormoc City Health Emergency Management Team extended help for Southern Leyte, including the barangays of Limasawa Island, wherein the said team turned over medicines to the Rural Health Unit of Limasawa through Dr. Cristine De Guzman Leonido while in Barangay Cabulihan, the team conducted anti-tetanus vaccination, consultation for children under five years old, and distribution of medicines.

In addition, the team also distributed mosquito nets and Hyposol, a potable water solution, in Barangays Lugsongan and Magallanes, which are said to be the most affected areas in Limawasa, while residents in Barangays San Agustin and San Bernardo also received Hyposol and in Brgy. Triana, residents received mosquito nets.

Limasawa Mayor Melchor Petracorta in a message to LGU-Ormoc, as relayed to the team, said that he is grateful to the city for extending help to his constituents most immediately, when the island needed the help most. “Mayor Richard maraming salamat na nabigyan pansin yung Limasawa Island at kung ano man ang maitutulong ng Ormoc City, we greatly appreciate on our part na merong ganong LGU na makatulong sa amin,” said Petracorta.
